Postdoctoral Positions at the University of São Paulo (IME-USP)

The Dynamics and Geometry in Low Dimensions project and the Symbolic Dynamics, Non-Uniform Hyperbolicity and Singularities – Young Researcher Project, both funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), invite applications for two postdoctoral positions, one associated with each project.

Both projects are based at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo (IME-USP). The research team includes Albert Meads Fisher, André Salles de Carvalho, Clodoaldo Grotta Ragazzo, Edson de Faria, Edson Vargas, Fábio Armando Tal, Ricardo dos Santos Freire, Salvador Addas Zanata, and Yuri Lima.

We seek candidates who hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) obtained within the past seven years, or who expect to obtain it before the starting date of the fellowship. Applicants should demonstrate strong research potential in one or more of the group’s areas of interest, which include: real and complex dynamics in low dimensions, topological dynamics on surfaces, geometry and topology in low dimensions, Teichmüller theory, hyperbolic and non-uniformly hyperbolic dynamics, and ergodic theory.

These are two-year appointments, renewable for up to four years depending on funding availability, satisfactory performance and institutional approval. The positions are funded by FAPESP under the following conditions:

• Start date: Between March and August 2026

• Annual stipend: BRL 150,840.00 (postdoctoral fellowships are tax-exempt in Brazil)

• Research allowance: BRL 15,084.00 per year

• Teaching duties: None
